Auracast on Android: the Pixel 8 baseline and the official device list

Google's official record

For most of Auracast's first years, Android's support lived in individual manufacturers' pages — Samsung's Audio Broadcast rename being the documented example. That changed on Google's side: the Android product blog now carries the platform-level record, dated September 3, 2025, from Android's product manager: "We're expanding LE Audio Auracast support to more devices and introducing a new way to share audio to multiple headphones."

The same post connects the timeline: "Earlier this year, we announced LE Audio Auracast support for hearing aids. Today, we're expanding Android's LE Audio capabilities to headphones from Sony." That line matters for platform watchers — the assistive-listening case came first, and general headphone support followed it, the reverse of how classic Bluetooth audio grew up. The device list

Google footnotes the expansion with an explicit device list — worth quoting in full because it is the answer to the question buyers actually ask:

"Compatibility for LE Audio Auracast is currently limited to select devices. This includes the Google Pixel 8 series and newer, Samsung flagship devices released since 2023 (Galaxy S23/S24/S25, Z Fold5/6/7), and specific Xiaomi models (Xiaomi 14T, Xiaomi 14T Pro, Xiaomi 14, Xiaomi 15, Xiaomi 14 Ultra, Xiaomi 15 Ultra, Xiaomi MIX Flip) and specific POCO models (POCO X6 Pro, POCO F6 Pro, POCO F7 Pro, POCO F7 Ultra). Both the phone and headphones must support LE Audio."

Two honesty notes travel with this table. First, the list is complete and closed as quoted — dated September 3, 2025 and re-checked on this page's verification date — and Google can widen or trim it in later updates, so the record travels with its as-of date. Second, absence from this list is absence from Google's September 2025 expansion note, not a manufacturer's "no": other brands document their own Auracast support on their own pages, as Samsung's does.

How joining works

Android's Help center documents the listener side end to end: "You can also scan and tune into public LE Audio broadcasts through your phone. Your phone helps your LE Audio headphones or hearing aid devices connect to these broadcasts." The QR-code flow runs: connect your LE Audio headphones, scan the broadcast's QR code with the Camera app, tap the Playlist button, then tap Listen. For sharing your own audio, the same page documents pairing a second set of LE Audio headphones or handing out a QR code to another Android phone.

The requirement line is printed just as clearly — "Connect your Android device to LE Audio headphones" — because the whole flow rides the LE Audio stack, not the classic Bluetooth one our Android codec record documents. A phone that has never run LC3 over a unicast LE Audio link can still be an Auracast joiner; the lanes are separate.

What this means in practice

• Pixel 8-or-newer owner: your phone is on Google's list; the how-to page walks the venue case.
• Older Android owner: the phone may still run great classic Bluetooth audio — Auracast is a device-level capability, not an Android-version guarantee. Check the maker's page.
