Auracast earbuds: which true wireless join broadcasts

The documented record

Earbuds are the device category Auracast's broadcast model fits most naturally — small, personal, everywhere. The Bluetooth SIG's own FAQ names earbuds among the categories the feature is built for, and the first manufacturer-side documentation followed quickly: Samsung's support page for the Galaxy Buds3 and Buds3 Pro documents the buds' listening flows by name — the buds' own "Listen to Auracast broadcast" join flow, and the phone-side "Broadcast sound using Auracast" switch — along with broadcast name and password handling.

That Samsung page matters beyond the Galaxy ecosystem: it is the earliest fully documented earbud flow this site can cite, and its structure — phone as assistant, buds as listeners, optional password — is the flow the SIG's FAQ describes generically. Competitors' earbud lines are documented per model on their own pages: JBL's Auracast record runs through its headphone spec tables, and Apple's AirPods remain outside the standard per Apple's own spec sheet — our AirPods page keeps that absence dated rather than forecast.

How earbuds join

Samsung's page documents two distinct flows, and keeping them straight is the whole skill of reading it.

The buds' join flow lives in the buds' own paired-device settings: "Listen to Auracast broadcast." From there the buds search for nearby broadcasts, the listener picks one by name, a password is entered where the broadcaster set one, and the connection completes. The buds do this without their own screen — the settings ride on the paired phone — but the entry point is the buds' settings, not the phone's Bluetooth broadcast menu.

The phone's broadcast flow is the other direction entirely: Settings > Connections > Bluetooth > More options > "Broadcast sound using Auracast" makes a Galaxy phone the source, sharing its own audio out to nearby receivers, with broadcast name, password and the hearing-aid switch documented on the same page. That is the transmitter side, not the listening side the buds use.

Both appear on one Samsung support page, which is why summaries regularly cross-wire them — this page separated them the hard way, after a verification pass caught exactly that wiring error. Checking any model

The per-model check takes two reads:

• The spec table, for an Auracast row — the same discipline as the PartyBoost comparison, where the row name tells you the lane.
• The support page, for a documented join flow — Samsung's Buds3 page is the template: concrete menu paths, named modes, password behavior.
